I graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University in August 1973. I started practicing at Shelley Drive Animal Clinic on August 15, 1973, joining Dr. Arnold at the time. Away from the clinic, I enjoy fishing and I am the president of the Lone Star Fly Fishers.
As a kid growing up in rural Kansas, I always had an assortment of livestock and pets, all much to my mother's dismay. I started working in a local veterinary practice when I was 17 and have worked in one ever since. After graduating from Kansas State University in 1984, I followed my husband, Dr. Jon Carlson, to Texas and was very fortunate to be able to come to work in Tyler with Dr. Arnold and Dr. Maris in February of 1986, where I have stayed and been able to develop my special interest in feline medicine.
I grew up in a small town in central Kansas. I have always enjoyed outdoor activities including athletic sports, fishing, and hunting. After graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University, I moved to Texas and started working in a busy mixed animal practice in Quitman.
I was born in Virginia but moved to Texas as quick as I could by the age of one. I have lived in Tyler ever since then except for the 7 years I spent in College Station. I attended Whitehouse High School and I graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University in May of 2008.

I was in the Career and Technology Center Veterinary Technician Program. That is how I got introduced to the Shelley Drive Animal Clinic family. I started as a shadow student for a few months during the school year. As summer was approaching I was offered a position to be a technician. Ever since then I have loved working with this amazing group of people that I call family!

Sammie has worked at Shelley Drive for the past 27 years. She loves working and taking care of the animals. Over the past 27 years, she has enjoyed working with great doctors and making great friends. She lives in Whitehouse with her husband, Tommy, and their multitude of pets. She enjoys the outdoors, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
I am 25 years old and have always loved animals and dreamed about working in a veterinary clinic. When my father passed away in 2011 that determination to work in this field became even stronger. In 2015, I started to get my certification for Veterinary Assistant through Animal Behavior College and that is how I met the Shelley Drive team! I graduated in 2016 and started looking for a job in the veterinary field and was hired part-time. That summer, I was offered a full time job and I took the opportunity. By the end of 2016, I finished my Associates in Business/Management and have now dedicated my time to Shelley Drive!
In my free time I love to read and write, spend time with my family and play with my German Shepherd, Kuma!

I have always been passionate about animals and was ecstatic when I was able to start working as a Veterinary Assistant in 2008. I absolutely love building relationships with clients and the pets they call family. I look forward to the opportunity to continue building on my experience and knowledge of Veterinary Medicine at Shelley Drive Animal Clinic. My hobbies include fishing, being outdoors and spending time with friends and family.
I joined the Shelley Drive family in November of 2018 as the kennel manager. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the team as well as getting to know your sweet fur babies.
Though I'm new to Shelley Drive, I am by no means a stranger to animals or vet medicine. I started working at my first veterinary clinic when I was 16 years old. In 2014, I began working at the Tyler Animal Emergency Clinic as a technician and still work there part time.
I have lived in the east Texas area all my life and plan on staying here for many years to come. In my spare time I love going to the movies, hanging out with family and friends, watching football, and loving on my 3 dogs and kitty. I also love to travel for mission trips and spending time with my sweet fiancé.
